Gandhi Memorial:  The memorial was built on the spot where the urn containing his ashes were kept for public to pay their last respects before immersing at the confluence of the three seas. The Sun's rays fall on the place where the urn was kept on October each year (first picture right on top).

Pechiparai Dam:A serene beauty here make the artificial lake created by Pechipari Dam excellent picnic spot. 

Thiruvalluvar Statue: The Tiruvalluvar statue. a colossus monument in stone for the Tamil bard, was unveiled at Cape Commorin . The height (133 ft) signifies the 133 chapters of "Thirukkural". The right hand of Thiruvalluvar with three fingers pointing skywards, signifies the three cantos of  "Aram, Porul and Inbam"

The foundation for the statue was laid by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai on April 15,1979 in the poresence of the then Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran and unveiled by former Chief Minister M.Karunanithi. January 1,2000. .    

Vivekananda Rock Memorial: The Iconic monument and grand memorial to the great Indian philosopher Swami Vivekandanda stands on one of the twin rocks about 200meter offshore.

Mathur Aqueduct: This is the longest Aqueduct in Asia having a height of 115ft and one km long and was constructed across the river Parazhiyar in 1966; this bridge has become a place of tourist importance. There is a beautiful garden and children park at the base of the bridge.

            It is bordered with Thirunelveli District in the North and Northeast Kerala in the North West, Arabian Sea in the West, Indian Ocean in the South, the Gulf of Mannar in the East and Bay of Bengal. It has a coastline of 68 km stretched on the three sides. This small District is famous for its vast green fields, coconut groves, forest wealth and is dotted withlarge number of ponds. The total population of Kanyakumari district was 17.5 lakhs.

 Heritage and Culture:  Kanyakumari, the southernmost district in Tamil Nadu is blessed with places of legendary, historical and artistic importance. It is surrounded with green hills, perennial rivers, dense forest with wild elephants, beautiful  coastal line, places of great antiquity, historical significance and architectural value

               "The sun sets only to rise again", goes a Latin saying, No where is this more beautiful showcased than in the quiet tip of the Indian peninsula, known as Cape Camorin A visit to this district is not only a feat to the eyes of both foreign and  domestic tourists but to their minds also.

                  Kanyakumari has its ancient history dating back to the Sangam age and is a cradle of civilization in the past of India. The district has a large number of historic monuments and temples. A series of Kingdoms are known to have ruled Kanyakumari most important being Chera, Chola and Pandya. Up to early fifties of this century, this region was part of Travancore Samasthanam, present day Kerala, where the Tamil speaking majority population struggled to merge with Tamilnadu, and Kanyakumari become part of Tamil Nadu afterthe constitution of the state reorganizing Commission in 1956. On the recommendation of the commission, Agastheeswaram, Thovalai, Kalkulam, Vilavacodeand Senkottai taluks were given to Tamil Nadu,among which the first four taluks were grouped to form a new Kanyakumari District. On 1st November 1956 the present Kanyakumari District came into existence with headquarters at Nagercoil.

                                                                        Profile

               Kanyakumari District lies at the southern most tip of peninsular India where Indian Ocean, the Arbian Sea and the Bay of Bengal amalgamates. By the very location, the district occupies a unique place among the district occupies a unique place among the district of Tamil Nadu. Out of the most important pilgrim centers of India, Kanyakumari is famous for its tourist attraction.

                 Comparatively it experiences high rates of rain-fall and fertile soils the district as also called "Nangil Nadu" , legendary for agricultural productivity Kanyakumari has a high literacy rate in the State. People enjoy witness the rare scene of the setting of the sun and the rising of moon simultaneously on the full moon day at the cap in Kanyakumari.
